DeWitt began performing on stage at 13 years old. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Ball State University. The director recommended that she apply to UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program. There she received the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship in addition to the Clifton Webb Scholarship. While at UCLA she was employed as a secretary up to her debut on television in an episode of Baretta.Contrary to the rumor that she was taught by actor Abe Vigoda, Dewitt has stated that they never did meet. DeWitt is well-known for her character Janet Wood during the 1977-1984 period of sitcom Three's Company, a job she was offered after being cast in the show's second pilot. Janet was also in an episode of The Ropers that she appeared in the year 1979. DeWitt made her acting debut in a scene in 1984 of Three's Company. She made her return on stage in June 1991 when she played a part on a Noises Off production at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] She was also a part-time actress in Spring Fling, a 1995 TV comedy. Pinky and the Brain aired a 1997 episode featuring an actress who was based on her. The voice actor was a different actress. She was in an episode Cybill and also made a brief appearance in Living Single's final episode. [6] Some of her television appearances in the 2000s include Hope Island and The Nick at Nite Holiday Special as in addition to Call of the Wild.
